Meeting Programs

October 22, 2008, 7pm, Lisle Library

There are still openings for this month's critique meeting. This opportunity isn't only for first chapters, you can bring other things, like synopsis, cover letter, query letter, middle chapters (with short set-up) or brainstorming needs. New members: If you think you might me interested in having your work critiqued, email Jackie and we'll talk about it. It's well worth it.

We will also have a discussion on POV (Point of View).  How to tell what POV you're in, how to tell when you've fallen out of it, and how to take your POV deeper.  Bring questions and problems and the group will discuss.

Please join us to salute some of our incredible military veterans who are members of the Naperville VFW. Hear them tell their story and the story of our local chapter of the VFW and all the good work the members do for veterans, their families and the community. I know because I'm a member having served two tours in the Republic of South Korea from 1985 - 1987. Refreshments will be available starting 20 minutes prior to the meeting. This is a good time to catch up with old writing buddies before the meeting starts at 7PM followed by the program at 7:30. (Read more)

It's fitting that this topic is so close to Halloween as the only thing more frightening to a writer than a rejection letter is an audit letter from the IRS or the State Revenue Department. So, how do you know what triggers an audit? How do you know when it's your turn? What do you do when you receive such a letter? Well, come to our General Meeting on October 8, 2008 at 7PM and find out all you wanted to know about IRS/State Revenue Dept Audit Letters but were afraid to ask. We will also be discussing some of the recent changes in the tax code that are bound to pique your interest as a writer. Remember, most writers are small business owners and therefore subject to more intense record-keeping rules than the average taxpayer. So, come on out and join us for a lively presentation and discussion. Refreshments will be available starting 20 minutes prior to the meeting. This is a good time to catch up with old writing buddies before the meeting starts. If you have not been to our new meeting place - the Naperville Chamber of Commerce Center in downtown Naperville - the address is 55 S. Main Street (near the corner of Main and Van Buren), downtown Naperville, IL 60540. (Read more)

Sept 24, 2008, 7pm, Lisle Library There are still openings for this month's critique meeting. New members: If you think you might me interested in having your work critiqued, email me and we'll talk about it. It's well worth it. We will also have a short (I promise) presentation on characterization... actually you folks are going to critique a short portion of the class I'm giving on characterization, so we'll do a lot of critiquing this meeting. :-) I look forward to a full house!
