Oh What a Night! The brutal Chicago weather postponed our General Meeting scheduled on Jan 14th until Jan 28th but it was worth the wait. Cathie Linz presented her wonderful workshop on Dealing with Fear and Rejection as a writer to a Standing-Room-Only (SRO) crowd at the Lisle Library. The mix of well-published, recently published, and yet-to-be-published writers in the crowd provided a very entertaining and informative question and answer session. She also signed copies of her latest book Smart Girls Think Twice. There’s certainly enough rejection to go around in a normal person's life but as we've all learned - writers just aren't normal. Now, as it turns out several of us had recently gone through the experience of submitting a completed manuscript and then receiving a rejection letter so the timing of this talk was perfect. The good news we learned from Cathie is that not all rejection letters are the same and this was echoed by some of our other seasoned authors in the crowd to include Margaret Watson, Melody Thomas, Dyanne Davis, Ann Macela, and Luisa Buehler. So why do we write when it promises such much rejection? Well, I think we all agree that we write because it also promises so much reward and our group of WindyCity RWA members is such a supportive group that the rejection is tempered by care, love and understanding and most importantly growth as writers as evidenced by Cathie's delivery with grace and humor. Thank You Cathie for yet another wonderful presentation and for sharing with the group.
