Blowing Kisses To: Margie, Leah, and the Retreat Committee

578441_10200779686805248_2137738873_nWindy City hosted an intimate writing retreat where friends and writers alike came together to get power writing tips from the fabulous Margie Lawson. Margie shared her insights and editing tools to improve each participant’s skills, no matter their level, by digging into their own WIP.

She helped each writer fight off their own “Mind Monster” and find out just what might be an obstacle to their success. A huge thank you to Margie for her positive energy and wonderful expertise!

625595_10200779686205233_1193931280_nLeah Hultenschmidt of Sourcebooks joined us for the weekend as well. She took pitches, answered all of our burning questions, and offered one-page critiques for everyone who was willing to seize an opportunity. A good secondary lesson, always be prepared! Leah was warm and friendly, and made the terrifying experience of speaking to a real editor comfortable and easy. Many, many thanks to Leah!

Danielle Egan-Miller of the Browne and Miller Literary Agency joined us for our “Ask an Agent” booth at the Happy Endings reception. She happily chatted with anyone who approached her booth. A big thank you to Danielle for joining us for the evening!

We were all delighted and touched by The Windy City Blessing crafted by our own Allie Pleiter and enthusiastically recited by her and her Thespian Crew: Julie, Susan, Chris and Haley.

Lastly, a big Thank you to Kathy Thigpen, our tireless Retreat Coordinator, and Sherry Weddle, our fabulous “Food Fairy.” The weekend went off without a hitch because of the planning and care of these two lovely ladies.

Extra thanks to the following members who assisted in the planning and implementation of the retreat events: Lyndee Henderson – Registration, Sonali Dev – Graphic Design, Savannah Fox – On-Site Support and Photography,  Tracey Devlyn –  Advise and Counseling, Kristen Young – Agent 007 for the Purse Game, Adrienne Giordano – Talent Representation and Care, Chris Foutris – Happy Ending Reception, Nancy Hurst – Registration and Finance, Deb Pfeiffer – Evaluation, Robin Kuss – Leadership.

Thanks to all for a great weekend!
